So what about the effects of a hydrophobic treatment on a functional fabric? With C8, the protection is perfect. Neither water nor oil is absorbed. Liquids run off the surface. But C8 is already banned in the EU. Nowadays, C6 is used. It is more environmentally friendly, not yet permitted and also works quite well. In the future, only the C0 modification will be mandatory. It is environmentally friendly, water-soluble. But it only works against water, not oil. If the fabric is completely untreated, both water and oils can seep in freely. It is probably clear that the customer has no choice. Neither does the manufacturer, he has to apply what is ordered from above. However, this only applies to solid manufacturers in Europe producing and selling here. This may not be the case elsewhere in the world. And it is also clear that from C8 through C6 to C0, not only the efficiency but also the lifetime of the treatment decreases.
